Description of the role
The Basement Project is seeking new Trustees to join our Board at an exciting point in our development.
For over 27 years, we’ve supported young people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or facing challenges that threaten their ability to live independently. Now, as we expand our focus on prevention and early intervention, we’re looking for passionate and committed people to help shape our future.
We’re particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in:
- Fundraising and income generation
- Corporate partnerships
- Digital communications and social media
- AI and digital innovation
- Safeguarding
Skills and Experience We Are Seeking:
We welcome applications from people with a broad range of backgrounds.
We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with experience in:
- Fundraising and Income Generation: Helping the charity strengthen financial
resilience and diversify income sources. - Corporate Partnerships: Building relationships with businesses and developing
strategic partnerships. - Digital Communications and Social Media: Helping us engage effectively with
young people, supporters and stakeholders. - Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation: Supporting the organisation to
explore emerging opportunities and improve efficiency. - Safeguarding: Providing expertise and oversight relating to safeguarding
children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential. We value commitment,
insight and a willingness to contribute. Ongoing training and support will be provided.
Practical Considerations
Key Responsibilities & Trustees are expected to:
- Contribute to the development of strategy and organisational priorities.
- Monitor organisational performance and impact.
- Ensure effective financial stewardship.
- Oversee risk management and safeguarding.
- Act as ambassadors for The Basement Project.
- Support fundraising, partnerships and advocacy where appropriate.
- Uphold the standards outlined in the Charity Commission’s The Essential
Trustee guidance.
Time Commitment:
- Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years.
- Participation in a working group or committee.
- Preparation and reading for meetings.
- Occasional attendance at events and activities.
Any specific requirements
- Requires Criminal Record Check (DBS).
- Requires references.
- Must be 18 or over to apply.
Where is the opportunity based?
Meetings will be held in central Bromsgrove.
When is the opportunity available?
Held on Mondays at 5pm, 5 times per year.
About the organisation
For over 27 years, The Basement Project has provided free, non-judgemental and person-centred support to young people at risk of homelessness. The Project was set up in 1998 in response to a forum held in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Young people, many of whom had been homeless or had grown up in care, told local youth sector professionals that there was a lack of housing support for their age group.
The Basement Project has since expanded to cover the whole of Worcestershire, providing a range of support to young people up to the age of 25 who are homeless or vulnerably housed.
Their support services operate from their base in Bromsgrove at Hanover House, as well as through ‘floating support’ out in the community across Worcestershire.
The Basement Project offers:
- Mediation and Conflict Resolution
- Guidance to navigate the housing system and apply for housing.
- Support to manage a tenancy.
- Advocacy to help navigate challenges.
- Support to access employment
- Food bank providing emergency food.
