Maggs Day Centre

Description of the role
Our trustees play a vital role in ensuring that Maggs achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, and Maggs has a clear strategy that aligns with our goals and vision.
Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Maggs to grow and thrive, and through this, work with the homeless and vulnerable to raise self-confidence thereby enabling positive life change.
Board members have a collective responsibility, meaning that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.
We are looking for individuals willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

- Able to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.

- Data and knowledge management including data strategy, associated ICT, workflow systems and associated policy
- Enterprise and business development – particularly in a charitable and not-for-profit environment
- Managing frontline services for homeless and vulnerable people, including supported housing for homeless people

About the organisation
Maggs was founded in 1984 after a homeless man died after years of sleeping rough on the streets in Worcester. Five members of the local church came together in unity to provide sanctuary for the homeless to try to prevent further deaths among local homeless people. They were provided with a small church in Deansway, which, nearly 40 years later, is still the definitive Maggs Day Centre and has the same ethos to this day.
Our goal is not just to support rough sleepers in their situation, but to help them to make the changes necessary for them to change their lifestyle, by dealing with the issues that hold them back, like lack of confidence, substance abuse, or poor health, so that they can access permanent housing and return to a conventional lifestyle off the streets.
