Team Member

11th Redditch Scout Group

Description of the role

A team member is a part of the team of leaders who run a weekly Scout section; Beavers, Cubs or Scouts. This is a role for anyone wishing to support young people directly with planned activities as part of an existing section team. We offer opportunities across three sections covering different age ranges; Beavers (6-8 years), Cubs (8-10years) and Scouts (10-14 years). A new team member would be able to suggest the age range they would like to volunteer with and whether they would prefer to support our Thursday or Friday sections. As the Scouts programme covers a wide range of badges from craft and cooking to outdoor activities we welcome the skills and experiences of anyone wishing to volunteer.

Adult volunteers will support young people with their weekly meeting activities, run games etc with the support of the existing section team members. Volunteers will be able to undertake further training if they choose to do so.

We are looking for:

  • Anyone who wishes to work with young people or who has experience in doing so.
  • Anyone who is keen to work as part of a team to provide the best opportunities within Scouts for young people.

Practical Considerations

The Scout Association is a fully inclusive organisation therefore we will do our best as a group to work with volunteers to meet their needs as flexibly as possible. Volunteers may wish to consider their travel to our meeting place as this is not provided. No specific qualifications are required and The Scout Association provides additional free training for those who require it.

Any specific requirements

  • Will require DBS check.
  • Minimum age to apply is 18.

Where is the opportunity based?

Scout and Guide Headquarters, Feckenham Road, Headless Cross, B97 5AS

When is the opportunity available?

Mostly Thursday or Friday evenings based on when the volunteer is available.

About the organisation

11th Redditch Scout Group is based in Headless Cross, Redditch and is open to young people aged 6-14 years and adult volunteers. We have grown yearly since Covid-19, with increased numbers of young people joining us. We currently support almost 100 young people in their scouting journey across three sections: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, over two evenings, Thursday and Friday. These sections are supported by 20 adult Leaders, parental support and occasional volunteers supporting with specific skills. We require more adult volunteers to be able to take more young people from our waiting lists. Scouting activities provide fun, adventure and friendship to young people in the local community and our programme covers a vast range of outdoor activities and life skills.
