About the organisation
Schoolreaders is a national literacy charity and we match volunteers with local primary schools to support children in improving their reading and comprehension skills, as well as developing their confidence and social skills.
Volunteers visit their matched school once a week for an hour or two during the school day where they work individually with children to help improve their reading ability and also their enjoyment of reading. Research shows that fewer and fewer children are reading for pleasure so volunteers spending 1:1 time with a children to enjoy books together is invaluable. Often our volunteers read with children who need extra support or who do not have anyone to read to outside of their classroom.
