Walk Leader

Redditch Library

Description of the role

This role will include attending full training to enable you to successfully become a walk leader. As a walk leader, you will be responsible for planning/selecting a route and you will then be required to walk the route to identify any hazards. Additionally, you will need to ensure your planned route will be appropriate for the level of ability of the group and, while walking, be observant of your surroundings. This will include collaborating with other walk leaders to ensure the safety of all members completing the walk. Most importantly, you will relate to people of all backgrounds, enjoy walking and socialise with the group afterwards.

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic and dependable individuals who can come and assist with leading our walking group from Redditch Library. Importantly, you will need to be approachable, sociable and empathetic, relating to all members of the group both during the walk and afterwards for refreshments. Additionally, you will need to be organised to enable the walk to start on time, confident in leading the walk, have the ability to communicate clearly and be responsible and mindful of people’s walking capabilities. An interest in the local area would be an advantage but not essential as this would be an excellent opportunity to learn more about Redditch. Full training will be provided.

Practical Considerations

You will need to have a decent level of fitness, and the ability to walk approximately 5 kilometres in an hour.
